Dr. Jones is widely criticized in the real-world archaeology field as a looter and grave robber and so he is.  Much of what an object has to teach us comes from its context; where it was found, what it was found with, who put it there, why, and when.  When “Indy” comes along and snatches something from a tomb or other resting place he destroys a lot of the evidence that makes the object valuable as a learning tool.  This said, he does at least pay lip service to some high ideals.  He believes that these objects belong to everyone and should be shared and studied.  He fights against those who would misuse the objects for their own ends.  His enemies are usually even less interested in the objects’ cultural value than Jones is.
