The Museum of Missing History is a nonprofit organization that acts strictly as a conduit for information. The work of the organization is governed by rules in order to prevent any appearance of favoritism or conflict of interest.
These rules will evolve with experience and we invite you to contact us with your comments and suggestions for improving them.
Financial Interest: The Museum of Missing History will take no financial interest in any object. Persons employed by or volunteering for the Museum of Missing History are contractually prohibited from taking a financial interest in any object listed in the Catalog of Missing Objects (COMO) while working for the Museum or for one full year after leaving the Museum.
Confidential Information: Access to confidential information is restricted to certain employees of the Museum. All employees and volunteers must sign a confidentiality agreement regarding any information that they learn from their work with the Museum that is not public knowledge. This includes, but is not limited to, ownership of objects or terms of their sale or other transfer.
Catalog Entry Credits: As a nonprofit organization The Museum of Missing History exists for the benefit of scholars and scholarship. Bylines on catalog entries are restricted to nonprofit cultural and arts institutions and their employees. All others are encouraged to submit catalog entries for publication without a byline or to have an institution sponsor their entry.
Dissemination of Information: News of discoveries will be reported to our entire electronic mailing list at one time and posted simultaneously on our web site. Any subsequent updates about a found object will be handled in the same way.
Owners’ Identities: The name of an object’s owner will not be published by the Museum without their written permission unless their ownership is already public information.
